GFI HKFC 10s warms up for 32nd edition in 2017

The 32nd edition of the GFI HKFC 10s will be held from April 5-6, 2017, as the ‘World’s Best 10s’ takes place in the first week of April for a second straight year.

Since its inauguration in 1986, the GFI HKFC 10s has been held on the Wednesday and Thursday ahead of the Hong Kong Sevens, which in 2017 will be held from April 7-9, preceding the Singapore round for a second straight year under a tweaked World Rugby Sevens Series schedule.

The GFI HKFC 10s – managed by a new-look Organising Committee headed by Chairman David Nazer – has already extended invitations to the majority of the top teams from 2016. Announcements of early confirmations for 2017 will be made soon.

“Every year, the GFI HKFC 10s seeks to maintain its reputation as the world’s leading 10-a-side tournament by steadily building on the previous edition, and 2017 will be our strongest tournament yet,” Nazer said.

“We expect most of last year’s top teams to return. We also have interest from some exciting sides looking to compete in Hong Kong for the first time – and one or two former 10s teams looking to come back now that they’ve seen how the tournament has grown.”

Penguins won the Cup for a second time in April in a rematch of the 2013 finalists, as they edged Samurai 5-0 in the second period of extra-time.
