The GFI HKFC 10s will again feature 16 teams, each with squads of up to 16 players. Matches are 10-a-side (depending on yellow and red card offences), with unlimited interchange of players allowed during a match.
The duration of the pool matches and quarter-finals is 10 minutes each way with a two-minute interval. The semi-finals and finals are 12 minutes each way with a three-minute interval.
The round-robin group stage will be held on the Wednesday and feature four pools of four teams. Each pool consists of one team seeded 1-4, one seeded 5-8, one seeded 9-12 and one seeded 13-16. Each team will play all their pool opponents, with two points awarded for a win and one point per team for a draw.
The top two in each group will progress to the Cup quarter-finals and the bottom two in each group will contest the Bowl quarter-finals.
All knockout games will be held on the Thursday. From the Bowl quarter-finals, the four losers will enter the Shield semi-finals and the four winners will contest the Bowl semi-finals. From the Cup quarter-finals, the four losers will enter the Plate semi-finals and the four winners will progress to the Cup semi-finals.
The winners from each of the semi-finals will progress to their respective finals, which will be held – Shield, Bowl, Plate, Cup – at the end of Thursday's play.
In the event of a tie in a knockout match, sudden-death extra-time will be played. Extra-time is in periods of five minutes and teams will change ends without an interval. The first team to score in extra-time will be declared the winner.
Each team will play a minimum of five games – three in the group stage, a quarter-final and a semi-final.
